What do you get when you mix a house full of Argentinians with a national holiday? … Food for days…
Every 25th of May Argentina celebrates the day were the first autonomous government was instituted and usually (specially when I was in school) it’s celebrated with a range of classic argie dishes.
This year we decided to change our (now traditional) Sunday Barbeque for Empanadas and argie sweet treats. After being ‘mentally forced’ by friends to actually get out of bed and go to this gathering, I ran to one of the convenience stores in Hobson St, which usually stores argentinian goods, only to find that there was nothing there. The only thing left was a can of sweet potato paste. Lucky for us that is half the ingredients to one of the most argentine desserts I know…. Fresco & Batata.
The change of menu didn’t change the fact that, as expected, we extended our lunch till nightfall. It may have been the weather but I’m pretty sure it was the longest lunch we had since we started. (We stayed from midday till 7pm)
