One of the hardest things for me to get used to in New Zealand was dinner time, most people have supper reaaally early here, 7.30pm early and I was used to Argentinian dinner times (for le boyfriend thats usually 9.30pm – 10pm) Given that we dine so late, we have a little something called “Merienda” which is usually a nibble, kind of like a second breakfast, after work or school, around 5.30 – 6, it’s similar to the english 5 o’clock tea, without being so strict. That being said, “la merienda” is a wonderful thing, you do it on you own or you can get together with friends and have some coffee or tea, with cake or ham and cheese toasties, yum!
So after a few days in London, Le boyfriend came up to me and said “You know… I’m going to take you for tea, a proper english high tea.” So we did. We book a table at the Urban Meadow cafe that was a few blocks away from our hotel in Hyde Park and ordered a high tea for two. The cafe itself was quite modern looking, and from the design point of view I was sold, but I’m pretty sure that if you looking for a vintage or a full english high tea there are other places that can fulfill the 5 O’clock Afternoon Tea vibe.
